Welcome to our little space on the net! This blog is just about our family life, and began as a way to keep family and friends updated on what was going on with my pregnancy with our first son, Gage. We've since added Evie to our family, and I continue to blog about family life, car seats, spina bifida, and anything else that catches my attention.

Awake baby

Today was a good day! We spent pretty much all day with Gage. They told us this morning that they had to tap his head and drain the excess fluid off because too much had collected. Gage was more allert and content today. The nurses said that they think he may have had a headache yesterday. He had his eyes open a lot today so we talked to him a lot and just stared at him. They are taking him off of his antibiotics and fluids, which means they will disconnect his IV tube (the port thing will stay in, just in case). They still haven't taken the dressing off, but that's not a big deal. They upped how much he gets to eat again. He's up to 60 mL, or 2 ounces. I found out that I won't be able to hold him yet. The surgeon that came by said it wasn't a good idea. He is supposed to get to turn on his side in a day or 2, so maybe then. The poor nurse spent the whole day trying to get a urine sample, but Gage kept squirming around and knocking the little bag off. The finally got frustrated and said she was going to try something. Apparently he goes every time she lifts him up, so she got another nurse to help her and while she lifted him up, the other one held a cup and got the sample!

Here is a video of Gage doing what he enjoys doing best-sucking on his Binki. He is serious about his Binki!

Jessica and Tony, me and Leslie are sitting in the floor looking at that pretty boy. I love the passy. It's so sweet to know that they know how to comfort themselves that way. His skin is so pretty and Leslie said she thought he looked like Tony. His room is precious. We can't wait to meet him, Love Aunt Sue and Leslie
